Toronto's Economic Health Dependent on Good Transit
Toronto is a city on the go, you can't deny this, there is an energy and a pace in here unlike any other city in North America. Now how do we keep this energy and this momentum going, as this has the positive impact on our economic outlook for the future. The provincial government agency called "Metrolinx" is making regional upgrades to the Toronto Area Transit system, namely the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and the Air Rail Link, which will connect downtown Toronto to the Airport and Western Suburbs. In addition there is a massive renovation ongoing at Union Station that will increase capacity to a mind boggling 800,000 passengers per day. That number is so big it almost seems like something you would expect at a Tokyo Train station, although I understand that train stations in Japan have far more capacity than even a renovated Union Station. Other good news for Toronto coming down the pipe, is that finally there seems to be some real discussion of the downtown relief line, which would travel from Don Mills and Eglinton into the core via Pape then along (possibly) Queen or King. Even more exciting is that it might loop up to Dundas West, on the western fringe of Downtown. But for now, I would settle for just the eastern leg, as they say, beggars can't be choosers.
