Sears Canada Abandons Flagship Eaton Centre Location

The Sears location at the the Eaton Centre will be closing in February thus ending a long stand at the mall at the centre of the Canadian Retail Universe. The store at Yonge and Dundas never seemed to connect with the residents in the downtown core, as it seems to in the suburban locations in which it operates.

Other retailers from both Canada and the United States are now eyeing the location. Top of the list is Nordstorm's from the United States, and Le Mansion Simon from Quebec, which has just opened a new store in Edmonton.

The Hudson's Bay Store which has recently rebranded itself as an upmarket retailer has also both another luxury US retail brand in Saks Fifth Ave, and is threatening to bring that store to it's current location at Yonge and Bloor in Toronto's Trendy Yorkville Neighbourhood.
