Empress Walk at North York City Centre
Empress Walk is a retail, business and residential complex at the corner of Yonge Street and Empress in the heart of North York Centre. North York is the northernmost suburb of the City of Toronto. Once it's own city it was amalgamated with Toronto in the late 90's (1998) The Empress Walk is really a circular mall with all types of retail establishments, including but not limited too: LCBO (Liquor Store), Wendy's (Fast Food), Future Shop (Electronics), Loblaws (Grocer), Second Cup (Cafe/Coffee) and a Empire Movie Theatre, which is located on the top level of the malls circular layout.
The Empress Walk also includes, twin residential condo towers that reach 30 something floors into the air, and itself was a major catalyst for major redevelopment of North York Centre, from a business centre, which was what the former mayor Mel Lastman intended into a massive residential node, with condo highrises, now far outnumbering the numourous office towers which are also located here.
The Mall itself is located over the Yonge Subway line, and is a block north of the Sheppard line which moves east into North York. So it is also a transit hub of sorts, and it connects underground to North York Civic Centre, and the Centre City Mall across Yonge Street.
