Toronto lead in skyscraper construction for the western world is secure, with a 2 to 1 advantage over our nearest rival, we will not have to worry about another western city overtaking us. Just to be in a city where you are totally surrounded by skyscrapers under construction is a very surreal feeling, and one that is taking some time to get use to. I remember the 1990's and during that time in my youth, not a one tower was ever under construction once the boom ended. This time however, things are different, as it looks like we will have sustained development with no fear of a bubble bursting or market crash, even while the doomsayers cry their bloody eyes out from the rooftops.
One question I ask myself is why is it that only Toronto seems to benefit from offshore and domestic investment dollars into our construction industry, yes Vancouver, Montreal and even Calgary have some skyscraper construction to one degree or another. But nothing they have is anywhere close to the size of the Toronto highrise constructors scene. I have to assume, that there is some Chinese money flowing into Vancouver, but that seems to be the only offshore source, whereas in Toronto you have money from the Middle East (United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and others), money from Russia, and Eastern Europe, Western Europe from Ireland, and the Germanic countries, and then you have Iran, which is also pumping up the Toronto market.
Now some of the naysayers, state that it is this very foreign investment that is going to destroy the Toronto Real Estate Market, as they increase the pricing with their "Laundered" or ill gotten proceeds from illicit activities, I however believe, that although in absolute terms the money directed to Toronto from offshore is huge, it's still a small percentage of the total investment and Real Estate dollars that are flowing into the city.
Toronto is gonna grow hardcore for a long, long time! Get use to it!
Frankly, who cares where the money comes from? The main thing is they are choosing to invest it here, supporting both directly, and indirectly, over 300 000 jobs. The rest of Canada can go to hell for all I care, their unfounded insane hatred towards us is based purely on childish, ignorant envy and jealousy. They see us growing, while they barely have a few projects under construction, who's fault is that? Their own! If they had half a brain, they'd know how to attract business, yet most of these backwards, idiotic city councils turn down projects because of archaic rules restricting height and size, duh! We actually benefit greatly from their stupidity, so screw them, they have zero right to bad mouth us or whine. If they want to be like us, which they obviously do, then get a clue! We could literally support ourselves easily, considering we create nearly 20% of Canada's GDP, they should perhaps shut the hell up, brain dead hicks!
