Toronto Chief Planner Seeking Ways to Develop "The Avenues
Interesting Read from the Globe and Mail regarding, spreading out development from the downtown core, which is nearing maximum density, if the proposed super-towers (Mega Towers) go through, to smaller avenues on the fringe, such as Eglinton, and St. Clair that will have excellent public transit with the new LRT trains on both streets, and an underground portion on Eglinton. There will always be some opposition to these projects, even when they are not as tall as towers downtown which are now being proposed at 80 floors, 90 floors, and 100 floors. Even a little 6 floor condo, scares some of the people on these smaller streets outside of the core. There was a huge battle regarding the condo at Queen and Ossington, with residents (aka NIMBY's) fighting tooth and nail to prevent development. However these outer streets could provide more mid-rise high density living, and bring some additional community services to the area when they are completed.
