Anti-Condo Trash from The Star Readers:
Encouraging as this headline is, it is unlikely that investor resistance alone will stem the seemingly endless flow of proposals for outlandish and site-insensitive projects that are currently devastating Toronto. Tasteless, unimaginative projects are announced with a level of fanfare appropriate to a moon landing, sadly demonstrating yet again that building high is no substitute for building with intelligence, imagination and respect for the neighbourhood. In spite of the fact that most areas of Toronto have guidelines setting restrictions on condo developments, developers routinely submit proposals that exceed height restrictions by 40 or 50 storeys.

At that point the tiresome routine begins. Objectors scramble to make their voices heard at public hearings on the proposal, developers send along lawyers and architects to explain to the locals why they should be grateful to have this building towering over them, and the hired consultants dutifully trot out their reports to show that the proposed structure will have no impact on wind, sunlight or traffic
