L Tower Construction Update
The L Tower is condominium development which is currently under construction in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, it will be 58 floors and 205 meters when complete. It is called the L Tower because it is designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, the structure will be located adjacent to the heritage-designated Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, itself a modernist icon of the city at the corner of Yonge and Front Streets. It is built beside the modernist performance arts theatre and not on top of it, like the original design which had been proposed.
The project, which broke ground in mid October 2009, is expected to be complete in late 2012 - early 2013. Originally, in the 2000s, the Sony Centre (then known as the Hummingbird Centre) was expected to be demolished and the land sold, however Hummingbird Centre CEO Dan Brambilla successfully convinced the city to preserve the site and approve the condo development
The building is being developed by three builders, Cityzen and Castlepoint Realty Partners Limited of Toronto and Fernbrook Homes of Concord, Ontario.
