Steel Frame Construction - Instructions

How to Construct Your Own Steel Shed Addition

A Metal/Steel Shed is a cheap and easy way to add addition space onto your home, or give some addition storage space in your yard. You can even purchase a pre-fabricated steel shed for your home assembly needs. The construction of the steel shed could take anywhere from two days to a weekend, to put together.  You can do the work on your own, or with the assistance of two or three friends.  You may or may not be required to obtain a permit to build from your local government. So please ensure you have this before you begin construction.

  • 1.       Once you have selected a site with construction access, and level ground dig out half a foot of soil in which to pour the concrete mix.
  • 2.       Prefill, the hole with gravel before the concrete mix is applied to the ditch, and then cover with plastic to hold the concrete when poured.
  • 3.       Construct a wooden frame around the site to maintain the concrete forms when the concrete is poured into the ground.
  • 4.       Pour the Concrete, and ensure that the concrete slab is level. Then allow two days to a weekend to set the concrete into a hardened state.
  • Now that the concrete base has been built it is now time for the fun to begin with the construction of the steel and metal framing of the shed.

1.       Lay out the railing on the floor using the guidelines which have been provided by the steel frame manufacturers.

  1. 2.       Add support posts, and attach this to the floor railings which have been previously laid.
  2. 3.       Add in the doorjambs. Slide the door into the jambs and floor railings making sure they face into the proper area. Place the top rails onto the frame by connecting them to the shed posts . Ensure that the frame remains square.
  3. 4.       Attach the ridge bean and rafters to the shed frame. Screw the rafters into the rafters as directed by the maker of the equipments.

Adding the Panels to the steel frame of the shed is the final piece of work which has to be completed to get the look of the shed right and make it ready for use. Here are some simple instructions for installing the panels into the frames.

  1. 1.       Add the gables to the shed and screw them into the rafters and top rails
  2. 2.       Slide the wall panels into the frame posts. Raising the top frame rail slightly and positioning the panels into the frame and snap into place along the posts
  3. 3.       Once all the panels have been installed, pull the top rails of the frame back down and lock.
  4. 4.       Snap the corner panels and the panel connectors into place in the same way as the wall panels
  5. 5.       Add the roof panels and slide them between the rafters and ridge beam. Once the roof has been put into place, slide connectors between roof panels
  6. 6.       Screw the shed frame together with manufactures supplied screws
