Halifax Community Wants Skyscrapers Downtown

Halifax Community Wants Skyscrapers Downtown..

Seems that in Halifax, residents are begging for downtown apartment condo complexes to be completed and developed. They want the energy and life these towers will bring to the core. They are not fighting it, however, the city council is fighting the developers and downtown businesses are crying.

The Skye Tower, a 172 meter tower in halifax is being met with resistance from the council and will likely not make it to development, yet the people of Halifax seems to have come down squarely on the side of the developers. Something you would never see in Toronto. This just goes to show how we here have been totally spoiled by our hyperactive and exciting downtown. People in Halifax are begging, and wishing their downtown was an interesting and as vibrant as downtown Toronto.

Halifax Fights Condo Towers

Halifax regional council could pull the plug on the controversial Skye Halifax project at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
The new council will vote on a report from HRM’s Design Review committee recommending against amending current planning policies to allow the construction of the towering apartment complexes.
A vote in favour of the recommendation would kill the project in its current form, while a vote against would put the matter to a public consultation process.
According to HRMbyDesign rules, the maximum height permitted for the Granville Street site is 66 metres. The towers shatter that at 172 metres.
Coun. Jennifer Watts said voting to support a public hearing would be an insult to residents whose input was already used to shape HRMbyDesign.
